Ion trap mobility spectrometry detects chemicals based on migration of ions through an electric field. ITMS is very similar to IMS in that both techniques use ion mobility for identification, but differs from IMS in the source-drift tube interface design. Morpho Detection, the sole vendor of ITMS systems, claims that the ITMS interface, which does not require a membrane or shutter grid to isolate the source from the drift tube, provides greater sensitivity.
