Pellistor Catalytic Sensors
The sensor is designed for use with a Wheatstone Bridge circuit so that a difference signal may be obtained. Pellistors are miniature calorimeters used to measure the energy liberated by the burning of a combustible (flammable) gas or vapor. A platinum coil is housed inside a refractory bead which has a layer of catalytic material. The wire is at a temperature where a gas molecule will be burned when it contacts the catalyst layer. This burning generates heat which increases the resistance of the coil.
