The Hand-held Advanced Nucleic Acid Analyzer (HANAA) from Lawrence Livermore was the precursor to the Bio-Seeq. It was a fragile, 4 well device. After quality control reactions, little space was left for samples. The Bio-Seeq was designed to be a more robust device. If the Bio-Seeq is capable of internal control for inhibition and primer annealing it would be a significant improvement over the HANAA. A responder must decide which pathogens to test for ahead of time anthrax (pX01 and pX02), orthopox, tularemia, plague, and set up the system accordingly.
