55 Dissolved Oxygen
The YSI 55 dissolved oxygen meter measures dissolved oxygen in mg/L or percent saturation. It has push-button calibration with a built-in calibration chamber, direct salinity, and altitude compensation. The unit provides simultaneous readings of oxygen and temperature. The sensor has an acrylic body with a gold ring cathode embedded at the end. Inside the ring, there is a chamber containing a porous silver anode. The chamber is filled with a KCl electrolyte. A membrane which stretches over the chamber isolates the electrodes from the environment, but allows gas to enter. The membrane passes oxygen at a rate proportional to the pressure difference. As partial pressure changes so does the diffusion which changes the probe current proportionally. (Not recommended by vendor due to its age and older technology)
