Joint Biological Point Detection System (JBPDS)

Using laser-induced fluorescence, the JBPDS continuously evaluates the atmospheric background for traces of potential biological agents. When the system detects a potential threat, a collector/concentrator is triggered to collect hundreds of liters of air per minute with the particulates concentrated in a small amount of liquid. The liquid sample is then evaluated for specific biological agents using immunoassays. If the presence of biological agents is suspected, JBPDS triggers local and remote warning systems and communicates threat information over standard communication systems.
